Vaishno Devi
The shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi is situated at a height of 5,300ft and a very important Hindu Pilgrimage site. The Mataji's idol is located inside a cave on the Trikuta hill (lower Himalaya. Katra) in the State of Jammu & Kashmir (61 kms). The last 13 kms of the way is by trek on the hill which is now supported by stairs on the hill. |
| The cave has 3 deities which are Mahakali, Mahalkshmi and Mahasaraswati. This is the most visited pilgrim sites in India. Places to visit includes Ban Ganga Temple lies 3 kms far from Katra where the Goddess produced river on the shot of an arrow. It is believed that Goddess washed her hairs at this place, so pilgrims took bath here also you must have a counter given on the Bus Stand, Katra to visit this place. The Charan Paduka Temple is lies at 1.5 kms from BanGanga where it is believed that the Goddess stopped for sometime while Bhairon was chasing her. Charan Kamal or Paduka (Holy footprints) of the Goddess can be seen here on the Stone at this place. ArdhKunwari is the half way point to the Vaishno Devi Temple, where pilgrims stay for night. This is 15 foot long cave where it is believed that Goddess hider herself from Bhairon for 9 months and when he came to the cave, the goddess made a new opening and ran away. The place is well facilitated by the State of Jammu & Kashmir and also by the Shrine Board along with private Hotels and parties. |
| How to Reach |
By Air : Nearesh Airport is Jammu (48 kms from Katra). Helicopter Service is also here From Sanjhi Chat (Jammu) in the morning times which cost Rs. 2,000/- one side with 2kg baggage.
By Rail : Nearest Railway Station is Jammu which is well connected with other parts of the country.
By Road : Nearest Bust Stand Katra (13kms) which is connected through Jammu Bus Stand. |
