Mahabalipuram
Mahabalipuram situated just 58 kms away from Madras on the Bay of Bengal. Its world famous pilgrims sites are its sea shore temples which has world class architecture which makes them best in their class. The historical importance of this place can be traced by the fact that once it was the second capital of the Artist Lover Pallava kings of Kanchipuram.
Places to visit includes the shore temple is dedicated to both Shiva and Vishnu which faces the sea on the east, idea behind this is to catch the first rays of the rising sun. The Mandapas and Raths are also famous. Nearby to Sea-shore are the eleven excavated temples and nearby there is a "cut out" temple, called a "Ratha" along with 5 other Rathas on the other hill. |
