Hindu Pilgrimage : Kedarnath
This 1000 years old holy pilgrimage lying at an altitude of 3584 mts, on the head of river Mandakini, is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This is among the one of the twelve To reach this temple, visitor has to cross 14 km long trek from Gaurikund. It is among the one temple in Panch Kedar. The amazing thing is how these huge stones were managed in past to the place to built the temple. |
| The Rest four among the Panch Kedars in Garhwal - Tunganath, Madhyamaheshwar, Kalpeshwar and Rudranath The temple is built of huge and heavy stones which are cutted and shaped evenly for a beautiful structure. The temple is having a beautifully carved and made " Garbha Griha" for worship and a Mandap apt for assemblies of pilgrims and visitors. As per the story lying at this place from past, it is said that Pandavas were having guilt of killing their relatives in Mahabharata so they want to solve the issue with Lord Shiva. . Lord shiva wanted to avoid them so he took his appearance as bull. But Bhima, who is one of the Pandavas, traced among the group of cattle. Bhima grabbed Lord Shiva from the back but Lord Shiva dived and scattered in the whole Garhwal. Bhima got only his tail in his hand. This is worshipped as idol here. The rest of his body scattered in other four Kedars in Garhwal. Best time to visit the temple is between May to October. Rest of the time it is covered by snow. |
