Health: The entire Indian sub continent is having the same health hazards so keeping away from these hazards by relevant precautions can give you the ultimate pleasure of traveling. The major risks are diseases like Malaria, Encephalitis, Kala Azar and Dengue due to mosquitoes. Always Cover your arms and legs; be liberal with the repellent and where problem of mosquitoes are more sleep under a mosquito net. Traveller's diarrhoea is another running problem. Take precautions in having food and always take branded mineral water which is easily available all over India. Also, if you are thinking for International Brand cold Drinks, make yourself confident about their ingredients because there may difference in their quality in India and Outside India. Beware of contacting AIDS, Hepatitis B and other sexually transmitted diseases...Have safe responsible sex.

For climbers and mountaineers: Take precautions for symptoms of altitude sickness/acute mountain sickness. Always carry sunscreen with minimum SPF 20 to escape sunburn and good Sunglasses.The quality of health services is not same in all the parts of India. Urban centres, particularly metros, have good hospitals, well stocked late 24 hours open chemists, highly competent doctors and top of the line medical services. Conversely, rural and semi-rural areas have very limited facilities. Medicines are fairly cheap in India. It is always suggested to take along prescription drugs with you. Safety : India is a reasonably safe travel destination and people have religious beliefs. People here having very cool nature with a genuine helping hand always. Areas that may be avoided are Jammu & Kashmir and parts of the Northeast, which in any case have restricted tourist activity. You can hear few instances of mugging, theft and worse but large serious crimes against travellers are very few .

Basic precautions:
  • Always keep your money and travel documents close to your body (perhaps in a pouch slung around your neck, out of sight of others under your shirt).
  • Keep several photocopies of your passport, insurance, travellers' cheques etc. scattered through your luggage.
  • Do not use a waist pouch, it may as well be a transparent plastic bag: it's that fragile and that obvious!
  • Never put all your money in one place.
  • Make yourself aware of medical facilities and leading Hospitals before visiting a particular place.
  • If possible, keep yourself update with cultural scenario and social values f the country.
  • Huge crowd acts as a protection to travelers in India at any place. Take necessary precautions in the dark. Make yourself aware about the nightlife of the visiting city before freaking out. Try your best, not to visit less crowdy places in dark. Before leaving your place, first know your route plan for the city to return back to your place safely.
  • Be cautious about clothes at non-metro or sub-urban area. Women travellers can wear the long tunic and loose pyjama dress commonly known as salwar-kameez which can help in discouraging unwanted male attention.
  • Do not advertise, if you are traveling alone.
  • In case of any mishap like losing your passport, etc. Lodge a First Information Report (Commonly known as F.I.R) at the nearest local police station and contact your embassy immediately.
