Haridwar
Haridwar is considered as the starting pint of all pilgrim centers in the Uttarakhand Region, one of the Shaktipeeths and a big source of Ayurvedic Medicines. The other names of the City is Mayapuri, Kapila and Gangadwar. The name of the city Haridwar is given by the followers of Lord Shiva (Har) and Lord Vishnu (Hari). |
| The first one pronounce it Hardwar and the laterone as Haridwar. But this is the starting point or the entry gate for Char Dham i.e. Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. This holy pilgrimage city lies on the bank of Sacred River Ganges. From this place the Ganges enters the plains. The River shores are having numerous Ghats on the river, pilgrims take bath here to purify their soul and proceed towards Nirvana. It is said that Haridwas has been bless by the trinity of Lord Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma.The old pattern of teaching, the Gurukul trading is still here which is flourished day by day in the guidance of the intellectuals here. The world famous Kumbh Mela occurs after rotation of every 12 years and Ardh Kumbh after every six years. As it is believed that drops of Amrit fell in the Har-ki-Pairi's BrahmaKund, so every pilgrim wants to take a dip on this particular occasion. Nearby is the Rajaji National Park which would definitely fulfill the needs of nature and wild life lovers. |

| Hark ki Pairi : It is one of the sacred Ghats which is made by King Vikramaditya in the memory of brother Bhartrihari. It is said that stone in the upper wall of Har-Ki-Pairi have the foot prints of Lord Vishnu here which is always touched by the sacred river Ganges .
There is a Maha Arti in the evening which should be participate by everyone who visits this place because its an memorable scene of thousands of Diyas and Marigold floating in the Holy Ganges. Precautions to be taken is the Lots of Pandas and Pujaris which sometimes asks for huge amount for rituals. Also do not entertain Beggars here. |
Daksha Mahadev Temple
This place is among the five sacred places of Haridwar situated at 4 kms from Haridwar in a town called Kankhal. Mythology says that Lord Shiva's followers killed his father-in-law King Daksha Prajapati, to take the revenge of his beloved wife's death, who burnt herself in the Yagya performed by her father King Daksha Prajapati, who insulted her husband Lord Shiva, she couldn't tolerate the insult.and performed the act. But later Lord shiva brought Daksha to life again. The temple is dedicated to this legendary. |
Chandi Devi
This temple is made by King of Kashmir Suchat Singh in the year 1929. Goddess Chandi killed the Chanda_Munda the demons, the temple is thus dedicated to Chandi Devi. Stories also states that the idol of Chandi Devi was established by Adi Shankaracharya in 8th Century. To reach at this temple, one has to go through a 3 kms trek from the Chandi Ghat. |
Mansa Devi
This holy temple is situated on a hill called Bilwa Parvat. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Mansa Devi. You can get through this temple by a rope trolly which gives you exiting view of Haridwar. |
Sapt Rishi
At this place, Ganges divides herself into Seven small different streams. That's why it is called Sapt Rishi which gives a picturesque view of Holy River Ganges. |
Maya Devi
Maya Devi is one of the Shaktipeeths in India. It is said that when Sati ji, Lord Shiva's Wife who had burnt herself to keep the honour of her husband, was carried by Lord Shiva her heart and nave had fallen at this place. At this place there is an ancient temple of Maya Devi who is also the Adhisthatri deity of Haridwar. |
