Gangotri
Gangotri, is one the major hindu 18th century old pilgrimage centre and around 3200 m above sea level with picturesque surroundings. The main reason behind this is the origin of the sacred river Ganges. As per the mythology here, King Bhagirath worshipped Lord Shiva to bring Goddess Ganga to earth to absolve the sins of King Bhagirath's predecessors. |
| It is believed that Goddess Ganga appeared on earth near a sacred stone at this place. Thus at its source, it is also called Bhagirathi. The shrine opens on the auspicious Akshaya Tritiya, which comes in the last week of April or the first week of May. Openings stated with some special puja or rituals.
