Chidambaram

The Chidambaram or Thillai city lies at 58 kms south of Pondicherry having beautiful temple dedicated to Lord Nataraja well known as Lord Shiva. The uniqueness about the temple is it is among the one where Lord Shiva and Vishnu, both under one roof. Also, Chidambaram is one of the five Shivite Mukti Sthalams.

Places to visit are the Nataraja Temple which is in 40 acres area. And Kali Temple which is on the northern end of the town. Near by to the town about 25 kms. Far Vaitheeswarnkoi or Viadanatheeswarar Temple of Lord Shiva and Parvati is worth to visit. The temple town of Chidambaram, 58 km south of Pondicherry greets the visitors, with a beautiful temple, dedicated to Lord Nataraja - Lord Shiva in the enthralling form of a Cosmic Dancer. This is one of the few temples, where Shiva and Vishnu are enshrined under one roof. Chidambaram is also called Thillai, since the place was originally a forest of Thillai shrubs. It is one of the five Shaivite mukti sthalams, the other four being Kalahasti, Kanchipuram, Tiruvannamalai and Tiruvanaikaval. A unique feature of Chidambaram is that a person of any race or religion can visit the shrine and pray.

How to Reach
By Air : Nearest Airport is Trichy.
By Rail : Chidambaram Railway Station connected by rail with Trichy, Chennai and Madurai which are connected with other parts of the country.
By Road : Chidambaram Bus Stand is also connected with all major cities of the South and other parts of country also .
