Badrinath Dham
Badrinath Dham is one of the oldest Hindu pilgrimage at an altitude of 3133 mtrs above sea level on the bank of river Alaknanda in between the two mountain peaks Nar , Narain and Neelkanth. The Temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu.The idol of Lord Vishnu is sculpted in black along with 14 other idols which makes it very attractive.
It is said that the temple was built by King Pururuva and prior to the Vedic age but Adi Shankaracharya reconstruct it in the 8th century It is also known as the Vishal Badri, the largest among the five Badris, it is revered by all as the appropriate tribute to Lord Vishnu. The term Badri is derived from “Badris” which means wild berries which were here in huge quantity in past. It is having one Garbha Graha,Darshan Mandap and the Sabha Mandap. The Garbha Graha has a golden sheet by Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar from Indore. Nearby places includes the Tapt Kund where people take a dip before doing rituals and visiting the temple, Laxman Temple which is the brother of Lord Rama, Brahma Kapal where rituals are performed for ancestors, Mata Murti Temple is dedicated to the Mother of Badrinathji is just 3 kms. Away, Alkapuri, which is just 15 kms far is the source of Alaknanda River and Hemkund Sahib is just43 kms far from this place which is a holy place of both Sikhs and Hindu. Best time to visit the temple is between May-October. But before making the visit confirm about the door closure and door opening time of the Temple. |
